============================================= AUCTIONBLOCK.ORG Free Tax Foreclosure Prevention -- All 50 States
Monthly Update | Issue #1 | March 2026
We're Live. Here's Why It Matters.
Every year, thousands of American families lose their homes to tax foreclosure -- not because they don't care about their property taxes, but because life happened. A medical emergency. A job loss. A death in the family. A disability. By the time they realize how serious the situation is, the timeline to save their home has already started shrinking.
The worst part? In most states, there are programs, exemptions, and legal protections designed to help these families. But the families who need them most often don't know they exist.
That's why AuctionBlock.org exists.
As of this month, AuctionBlock.org is live and operational. We are a mission-driven company based in Corvallis, Oregon, and our mission is simple: make sure every family facing tax foreclosure knows their rights, understands their options, and gets connected to the help that's available to them -- for free.
What's available right now on auctionblock.org:
-
50-State Tax Foreclosure Law Database -- Every state has different rules, timelines, and protections. Our database breaks down the tax foreclosure process state by state in plain language. No legal jargon. No paywalls. Just clear information about how the process works where you live.
-
Get Help Portal -- A guided intake that helps us understand your situation and connect you with HUD-approved housing counselors, legal aid organizations, and state-specific programs in your area.
-
Educational Resources -- Articles, guides, and explainers about tax foreclosure, redemption periods, exemption programs, and your rights as a homeowner.
We want to be honest with you from the start: we haven't served our first family yet. We're a brand-new organization. We've spent the last two months building the infrastructure -- the website, the legal research database, the resource connections, the organizational systems -- so that when someone reaches out, we're ready. We are building this the right way, not the fast way.
If you're reading this first issue, you're part of the foundation. Thank you for that.
Know Your Rights
Did You Know? In Oregon, homeowners over 62 with a household income under approximately $49,000 (adjusted periodically) may qualify to defer their property taxes entirely -- meaning you don't pay them until you sell, move, or pass away.
What this means: The Oregon Senior Property Tax Deferral Program (ORS 311.666-311.701) allows qualifying senior homeowners to postpone property tax payments. The state pays your property taxes on your behalf. The deferred amount becomes a lien on the property, with interest, but you don't owe anything while you live in your home. This can be the difference between keeping your home and losing it to a tax sale.
What to do:
- Check if you meet the age and income requirements through your county assessor's office
- Apply by April 15 of the tax year you want to defer
- The application is free -- you do not need to hire anyone to help you apply
Learn more: Visit auctionblock.org/states/oregon or contact your county assessor's office directly.
AuctionBlock.org provides educational information, not legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney or HUD-approved housing counselor for advice specific to your situation.
State Spotlight: Oregon
Oregon uses a deed-based tax foreclosure system, meaning the county can eventually take ownership of your property for unpaid taxes -- but there are important protections built into the process.
How it works:
- Property taxes become delinquent if unpaid by May 15 of the year following assessment
- After 3 years of delinquency, the county can begin foreclosure proceedings (ORS 312.050)
- The county must provide notice by certified mail and publication before any foreclosure action
- Homeowners have the right to pay delinquent taxes plus interest and penalties at any time before the foreclosure judgment is entered
Key protections:
- 3-year timeline -- Oregon gives homeowners more time than many states before foreclosure begins
- Right to cure -- You can stop the foreclosure by paying what's owed before the judgment
- Notice requirements -- The county must make reasonable efforts to notify you, including certified mail
- Senior and disabled deferral -- Qualifying homeowners can defer property taxes entirely (see Know Your Rights above)
Important deadlines for Oregon homeowners:
- November 15 -- Property taxes due (first third installment)
- April 15 -- Deadline to apply for Senior/Disabled Property Tax Deferral
- May 15 -- Taxes become delinquent if unpaid
